10/3 – In a provincial park that is supposed to have power and water. The electricity doesn’t work, but we are set up and too tired to move. In talking with other campers, they all said their power is lousy. I hope so, and I hope the problem is not ours.
It looks as though we are on a huge lake, it’s called the Atlantic Ocean!, and it is huge. We are on Mahone Bay and there are lots of islands plus it’s glassy smooth, no waves at all, but one of our better camping spots – other than no electricity.
That actually doesn’t affect us much. Heater, refrigerator, stove, oven, water pump, water heater all work. The only things that don’t are the microwave and TV – boo hoo.
Actually, we haven’t had TV in over a month. Our Serious/XM satellite radio works in the car although the news is anything but – all election BS.
We are an hour or so outside of Halifax, the capital and largest city in the Provence. Tomorrow we are hitting Costco for a few essentials then hitting the road for PEI. That will take a couple days drive then after that off for the US via New Brunswick.
10/4 – Before going to sleep last night, we piled on a 3rd blanket, two of which were down. We slept well on our coldest night.
As you know, I use a CPAP and without power I connect to a car battery. I normally don’t use the warmer/humidifier as it draws too much power. But last night the air was too cold so I turned it on – breathing 77 degree moist air. Got 9.6 hours! I feel great today even though it’s still in the 30s outside. Battery will need charging.
It was supposed to be a good night for northern lights, but alas, none showed on a crystal clear night. All that we’ve seen on this trip were lights through an overcast sky once.
Evening –
So we got to Costco and got what we wanted. You know how they have deli stuff made up – sandwiches, fettuccini, etc. here, they had lobster and shrimp fettuccini for $30 and we didn’t get it. It looked great. After back on the road we brought the subject up – we both were regretting that – at the same time.
Ended up on the north shore of Nova Scotia in another Provincial park with no nothing, excep PEI in the distance. We will cross the Confederation Bridge tomorrow and finally get to PEI.
10/5 AM
Another cold night but we were comfortable. This is a beautiful campground called Amherst Shores – misnomer as it’s at least 40 miles from Amherst and we are on the south side of the highway with “the shores” on the north side. But, another absolutely clear day with little wind.
Eve – we are on PEI at a KOA – I think that’s a first for this trip but it’s nice right on the West River in Charlottetown.
I’ll send a pic of the 8 mile bridge, the Confederation Bridge, that got us here.
And I’ll sign off and send this.
Love you guys.
