6/29 – Paint Lake provincial campground for last night but we could only get it for one night. The place is packed but we got I think the best spot – long, wide, table, fire pit, electric/water, and free firewood. But, mosquitos are pretty bad here.
Speaking of pretty bad. Thompson, north of here, is the crime capital of Canada. We went to the store here and gassed up of course (gas stations can be 200 miles apart and I carry 5 gallons extra). The town is pretty scary looking. A lot of gang activity which appears to be mostly First Nation youth. The Walmart was beyond busy, and police were everywhere inside the store.
In case you are interested, travel in Canada is relatively economical right now if you have US dollars. The US Dollar will get you about 30% more of Canadian Dollars. Gas is getting pricey in the extreme north, around $5 per gallon – but, that’s an imperial gallon which is slightly more than US gallon, AND, when I use my credit card I check my bank statement and a bill of $90, shows up on my credit card statement as $68. It does cost more but not as dramatic as it first appeared.
