I know it has been awhile but we need Internet and haven’t had it lately
9/28 – Wednesday.
Since the ferry from Newfoundland we took one day off and then drove towards The N and NW coast yesterday. Nothing too exciting to tell.
We plan on driving the W & SW portion of NS going thru Halifax – the drive should take 3-5 days. We are delaying everything a bit in order to maximize the Fall colors which are barely starting.

We are camped tonight on the Bay Of Fundy. A small town, where we stopped earlier, had the highest tide ever recorded in the world – around 60 feet above MSL (mean sea level). The tide was going out this afternoon, bottoming out at about 1-2 feet MSL, followed six hour later with a high tide of around 48 feet.
I used my debit card to extract $400 Canadian form an ATM today. I just checked my bank account – it cost me $304 US.

Frost heaves. Do you know about them? In cold climates, like virtually all of Canada, in the winter, roads, especially asphalt roads, shrink and create a crease in the road that normally stretches from shoulder to shoulder, and gets more separated and humpy with time. So, on many of the roads we travel, like today, every hundred yards or so we hit a bump. And this goes on for a good part of the day. I’m not crazy yet but getting there.
Today, we took this short drive to a long peninsula where we are camping at Whale Cove, again on the Bay of Fundy, for a couple days. If you see a map of NS, we are on the extreme western portion of the province. The peninsula has two island near the end. Tomorrow we have to take two ferries to first get to Long Island, and then the second to Brier Island, a favorite tourist site for many (check it out on Google images). The first ferry is 5 minutes, the second 10 minutes. We were looking for one carry out (food) place here in Whale Cove but they had closed yesterday for the season. They said there was a carry out on this side of the first ferry landing, so we drove there – 4 miles. They too were closed. So we took the 5 minute ride on the ferry to a grocery store and got some stuff for dinner. No wifi, no TV, but a nice quiet campground.
We passed Sandy Cove Beach back a few miles, famous for one reason. In the 1860s a man was found on this beach with a surgically removed leg! He never spoke for the rest of his life. A mystery to this day.
We are now into our third month and have driven over 8,000 miles. We will, at times, wake up and not know immediately just where in the hell we are. Crazy.

Went to Brier Island yesterday, not too exciting. Biggest industry there is Whale Watching Tours, and farm raised Atlantic Salmon, which are in these floating pens about 150 yards offshore – but in town.
Lobster and scallop commercial fishing have replaced fin fishery in importance. I had scallops for dinner – best food of the trip.

Woke up to steady rain and still warm. Taking off shortly but no goal – just go until we stop.
Now in Lockeport NS
Absolutely beautiful fishing community. Nice campground with Internet service, so I’ll send this in a minute.
Tomorrow – maybe Halifax or close, it’s about 120 miles away but much to see between here and there.
Fall colors starting to show more and more every day.
FYI, we met a younger couple from San Diego here in town. They know some of the people at Active.com. They have been on the road, first time RVing, for going on 4 months, and they loved Newfoundland.
OK, love to all.

P.S. For communicating with us, and contrary to previous request, use email and not texting. At one time we had a Canadian plan with free messaging, but that was only for 30 days. Email is free as long as we use wifi.
