High Island

5/15/19 – After 3 days in Port Aransas, we spent today mostly driving east. This portion of southeast Texas is farmland and swamp -er, wetlands. It is the flattest country I’ve ever seen.

Alligators are common along the entire Texas Gulf Coast and tend to show up where not wanted like the parking lot of the Dollar Store in PA.

We drove 250 miles and ended up in High Island (pic of RV park) across the street from an Audubon bird sanctuary. It took two ferries to get here, the last one is from Galveston across the bay and thus we avoided Houston, and a traffic nightmare. (It’s called High Island as it is 25 ft above sea level, most parks are 5 ft or less.  Here near New Orleans, this state park is 4 ft BELOW sea level. )
