9/12 – All the hype yesterday about the change in the weather actually is happening.
It rained until sometime after midnight and then came the wind
We are getting rocked around by winds in excess of 60 mph. These are not steady winds but huge gusts, going from almost calm to 60+. Adam gets knocked around, can barely stand.
So far no known damage.
So, can’t drive anywhere today. Windy still tomorrow but probably driveable.
later that day …..
That was something. Wind gusts here were easily close to 70 mph from midnight to late morning, but the strangest part is that none of them were steady winds. They would go from almost calm to just blowing like hell. The trailer actually moved about 4-6 inches, that was with all four scissor jacks down, wheel chocks on all 4, plus the tongue jack.
We stayed inside all day other than laundry and adjusting the trailer. The ferry could not sail because of winds, not that we care. We are leaving here, driving, in the morning. We had a couple here last night with a small travel trailer who left this morning. They were asking for big trouble- my opinion and that of the caretaker here.
But winds are now almost normal. We need to put clothes away and fix fried shrimp & noodles for dinner. There is a restaurant a across the street but “ouch” they are pricey.
Anyway, off for Grose Mourne in the morning. It’s about 100 miles south of here and the second largest national park in Canada.
9/15
Typical west coastal town in Newfoundland. We are parked on that distant beach at a RV park which doubles as a B&B.
For the second time we are weathered out of travel for the day. Cold wind gusting to 40 or so. So far it’s staying around 41 degrees. Tomorrow is supposed to be much better.
Gas stations are interesting places. They have full range groceries, snack foods, hardware, A ROOM FULL OF BEER, liquor (yesterday I saw 3 older women each buy those little one shot bottles of whiskey and they were already giggling), and auto care stuff – like a Walmart in 200 sq ft.
