5/27/19 – Now in southern Alabama, Town of Ozark. The heat continues to be bad. After arriving it took forever to cool the trailer down. Outside it was 98, – inside?, over 90 when we arrived. It wasn’t until around 8pm that it got below 80 inside. Last night at midnight it was still 84 outside. That doesn’t bode well for next few days as we now head north
Florida was a disappointment, it was too hot to do anything outdoors. Plus the price of RV spots was absurd with the Memorial Day weekend.
5/28 – 5/31/19. Stayed in Gadsden, AL, one night – county park and cheap. Then on to a Sweetwater KOA, in Tennessee. Nothing of real interest. All is picturesque, and all is green. Last night we had the first rain in about 2 weeks.
We are having some problems and concerns with the trailer: One of the Maxi-vents we had installed came apart and had to be removed. Two scissor jacks still need replacement. We’ve noticed weakening of the floor in spots. Then, to make that worse, I threw a bunch of clothes to be washed today in the tub last night and went to bed. An hour later our neighbor comes knocking as water is coming out the bottom of the trailer. When I threw the clothes in the tub it turned the bath faucet on which then filled the tub and overflowed. That introduced a lot of water into the underfloor area which will probably rot the wood there. So, a couple hours of hauling soaking wet clothes up the hill to the laundry – luckily open 24 hours – bed around 1am.
One bright spot now, no more 90s, in fact in Ohio there are 60s and 70s forecasted highs. That’s a couple days driving from here. I’m ready to leave the South, it was bad timing – or bad luck with the heatwave.
