Denver

4/6/19. All campgrounds adjacent to Willard Bay, part of the Salt Lake, were full, and we finally found a KOA that had an electric only site. The drive from Boise was boring, a lot like what we will see from here on to Denver. We did hit Twin Falls for a Chick-fil-A  sandwich. It was a Saturday and the traffic was unbelievable – everyone came to town shopping apparently. This area along the Snake River is the ag heartland of Idaho.

We are averaging about 275 miles a day, and even though I drive 55-60, it doesn’t compare with the other traffic – speed limit in Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming is 80 mph!

4/7/19. Rock Springs, WY – a 250 mile day and another KOA, one we will return to as it has the best K9 Kamp off leash area yet. Everest is happy.  High desert here, over 6,000 ft and winds blowing 30-40, which rocks the trailer and kicks up the sage allergens. Still lots of snow on the ground but should be evaporating fast with these winds and low 50 temps.

4/8/19. We were going along making good time with 30 – 40mph tail winds when they closed the road for high profile vehicles, I-80, and we had to stop in Rawlins, Wyoming, and it was before noon!  Wind in areas ahead were exceeding 60. We were told our best bet was to leave early as winds pickup in the PM. So, we were up and gone by 5AM the next day. Stopped in Fort Collins, about 60 miles north of Denver. Winter Bomb Cyclone forecasted for the entire area starting noon tomorrow.

4/9. Off and running at 9AM just as snow started to fall.  Snowed that night and the next day. But, we beat the storm and all hooked up at Prospect Park.

For the next 9 days we ate out every night it seems. Two of the most memorable were with everyone at Shay and Randy’s house where we had Randy’s smoked ribs one night and smoked chicken the night before we left. Of course Luke’s Chorale performance was one thing we will never forget. There is something about children singing that touches you deeply. We found out that Abbie got a Denver summer intern job sponsored by Bank of America’s. It also includes a trip to NYC. Luke and Jen leave in a couple weeks for China with the Chorale, then they both go to Kansas for the Global Destination Imagination. Thennnnnnn – Luke has a short break before going to Japan!  Crazzzzzzzy.

Here are a couple pictures our old(er) daughter, Mindy, posted for us:
