Deep South to Texas

11/2 – Since the last email, we left Panama City after 3 days there, the last day spent on the beach/in the water. Now we are creeping slowly thru the Deep South.

We are coming back here, especially SE LA  – bayou country. We learned – should say “learnt”- about boudin – Cajun sausage that is one of the most traditional foods here. We want to come back for fishing, gator huntin, air boat rides, eatin possum and assorted other road kill – but not in the summer. Hot steamy weather has been the norm for the past week. North of Houston right now and it is 80 degrees at 10PM, and foggy.

For these past few months (now into our 3rd and over 14,000 miles) we have spent virtually no time on freeways. But, we have really seen the country – it’s the only way to go.

11/3 – Arrived in Austin area late afternoon in the midst of one hellacious thunderstorm. Of course I needed to get the trailer ready to live in – so, got a real soakin. The temperature now in the low 70s. What a relief.

We will be here for two nights visiting with Mike and Eleanor Moore looking forward to familiar faces again. Jolene was the only other one in over three months.

11/5 – We had a marvelous day yesterday with M and E, what great people they both are, AND, I’ve never known anyone who were such world travelers.  They go to Australia and New Zealand in April which will complete their conquering of all seven continents. We spent most of the day gabbing about the past and present – and planning our bayou trip for next year.

So, today we did almost 300 miles, probably the longest day of the entire trip. We should get to Denver by Tuesday or Wednesday and have reservations at Prospect Park for one week, then homeward bound – at least that’s the plan for now

Today we had our second highlight in two days. We stopped in Llano, and decided to eat at Coopers, a pit BBQ place that apparently is one of the best in the entire state. It was fabulous, I mean great. I had the best beef I’ve ever had. They have catered for President G.H. Bush both at his ranch and even at the Whitehouse. If you want to be entertained about this place, go to Trip Advisor online and read the reviews – look under restaurants for Llano, TX. Pics coming via the iPhone later.

One other online site you may want to read is the travelogue of our trip. Our daughter Mindy has put it together at – gnsolson.com.  It is very well done with pics – and for those who have received these emails all along, you will recognize a lot of it.

I’ll send this off now, the next may not come until Denver as, generally speaking, NW Texas, NE New Mexico, and SE Colorado are not very exciting. We do have an 18 hour book on CD that may be our primary source of entertainment for the next several days.

Our best to all.
