Heading South to NC

10/18 – Wednesday

We have been heading south and east toward NC for the past few days.

We spent a couple days in VT and a couple in PA, then -out of PA, into Maryland, thru West Virginia, and into VA – all yesterday, spending last night on Cedar Creek, site of one of the key battles of the Civil War. The War is still a huge topic with the South.

We are currently in the center of Virginia and will continue SE tomorrow.

There is a real sense of history here. We went thru Charlottesville today, home of Thomas Jefferson (and Monticello) and another the hometown of James Madison (forgot the name of the town). I’m not really a student of the Civil War but all along roadways are historic markers about battles there.

I can’t say “Civil War” without thing of George Carlin and his list of oxymorons.

The weather is in the low 80s, warmest weather we have seen on the entire trip. By the end of the week there is a cool down coming.

Adam is getting more frail each day and is a worry. His whining is now starting around 2PM – it used to be 5 – 6.

There is very little Fall color now. Although yesterday we were parked under this black walnut and the leaves were pouring off that tree. It is one of the most common trees which I found odd. Mostly hardwoods now.

Some of you have asked to share our travels with others – sure do it with the disclaimer that they may produce severe drowsiness.

We may get into northern NC tomorrow.

10/19

We did make it to NC, barely, but what a day.

We took Adam to a vet and spent 3 hours while tests were run, X-rays taken, etc.  Bottom line, he has an infection and it’s probably pneumonia. So, a couple shots, and antibiotics for a month. He seems somewhat better tonight but still a long way to go.

We really didn’t get going until about 1:30 and then quit around 4. Nice campground, CABLE TV!!, internet, etc.  The AC has been on since arrival with temp in the low 90s and muggy.

Oh joy, we get the final debate tonight. I expect it will get even weirder tonight, if that’s possible.

We stopped at a NC Welcome Center which was smart (obviously not my idea). But they told me to take a different and longer route than what I had planned as much of the state is still suffering from Mathew – NC was hit the hardest of any state by the hurricane, in fact some rivers were still cresting early this week. So, we may not make it to Jolene’s until Friday.

Not much else to prattle about. Hope all is good with y’all. Our home on the coast survived the storms with no damage nor any power outages.
