We are leaving tomorrow going to just south of Seattle so that we take on Seattle on Sunday. Then east thru the northern Cascades. After that we will probably stay north but stay in the US.
Eventually we will, in the Quebec province, hang a left at Baie Comeau and face over a thousand miles of the Trans Labrador Highway, half of which is a packed gravel road. There are virtually no accommodations other than a couple restaurants and several gas stations outside of the 3 main cities – Labrador City, Churchill Falls, and Happy Valley/Goose Bay, and a couple other near ghost towns.
After Goose Bay we have several hundred miles of more gravel to Red Bay, at which point we have paved road down to the ferry to Newfoundland (only about 50 miles).
We will probably spend a couple weeks on the “Rock” before taking another, longer, ferry to Nova Scotia.
Nothing certain after that, but we have tour books and maps for 49 states ( no Hawaii this trip), and Mexico. We will go thru Vermont, the only state we haven’t blessed with our presence.
In prep for the Labrador portion I have two spare tires for the RV, new serpentine belt on the pickup, all new 10 ply steel belted tires for the pickup, and some odds and ends done to the RV. We have a new generator for the trailer – when needed. The solar panel on top should help. The biggest problems, outside of some breakdown, are going to be black flies, that are notoriously bad until September – so we have several head nets and spray.
Once in Canada, probably in a couple weeks, we are turning off cellular service. We will keep you updated, but for you, use only email service, not texting. Most communities have a library with free wifi.
Happy birthday today to Bruce – and Randy. Shay, pass on our best wishes to him (he should be thankful we don’t sing for him – Bruce didn’t luck out that way).
We will see you all sometime before the end of the year. This may very well be our longest trip EVER!
Love to you all.
